Following in the footsteps of her sister, award-winning actress Abbie, Isabelle Cornish, 18, is set to shine on her own as both an actress and model. We catch up with the Puberty Blues star and Bonds ambassador.
You originally started out as a model, is it great to be coming full circle?
"Definitely. I did catwalk modelling as a kid, then got wrapped up in acting and I’ve always wanted to model again - I see fashion magazines and I just fall in love with the beautiful images."
Last year, you tested for a lead role in the upcoming Transformers sequel. What was the biggest lesson you learned from the process?
"That if you’re not ready to do an audition, you shouldn’t do it. I also learned that hard work will eventually pay off."
You’re actually signed at a different talent agency to your sister Abbie. Did you do that on purpose?
"Not really, I could have met with her agency but I was just so happy with [my current agency]. Sometimes it’s hard because I’m known as Abbie’s sister but that’s why I have to do my own thing. I feel like I have a good fan base—from things I’ve been doing on my own and I have a big Instagram fan base. We’re alike but we do so many things separately. We look so similar but we both have different styles and interests, too."
Speaking of Instagram, you have over 70,000 followers and share quite a bit. What’s off-limits for you?
"I don’t go out drinking until all hours in nightclubs and I don’t often party, so I don’t have those problems of posting photos of myself doing anything silly, or photos in nightclubs or anything like that. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable putting that out there from my account…or clothing that’s not respectable, that’s a big one with me too!"
And on that note, your style is something you do share with your fans. What’s your go-to look?
"I love to mix it up. Today I’m wearing denim shorts, Adidas jumpers and Doc Martens and a backwards cap. Or sometimes I wear full-length to skirts and button-up shirts and a blazer with glasses. Depends on the day, I guess!"
Who are some of your favourite designers?
"In the future, when I have money I’d love to live in Prada and Miu Miu! I love Miu Miu but I don’t own many pieces. I love the printed shirts; they’re amazing and the shoes are incredible, too. I also Instagram great buys from Topshop and vintage markets."
Which artists are on repeat on your iPod?
"I love Frank Ocean, he’s incredible. I am really into San Cisco, Angus and Julia Stone and The Kooks—I never get sick of them."
Who do you look up to in your career?
"My sister has, and continues to have, a great career but I also look to Elle and Dakota Fanning for inspiration. Dakota in particular has done both hard-hitting and beautiful films. She’s diverse. I look up to them and want to make films that really impact on people."
